first soak

The Salt Box

Here’s what to expect with your first floating experience.

We’ll start with a quick tour the spa ending with a tour of your private float suite. We’ll walk through the step by steps, making sure your questions are answered. Below are more details regarding the floating experience.

PREPARE

We recommend using the restroom just before a float so as to not interrupt your session.

Remove jewelry. Contact wearers may want to remove contacts as well in case salt water enters your eye(s).

Insert the earplugs. We’ll provide reusable earplugs you’ll take home and save for future floats.

Shower with supplied, toxin free, body wash and shampoo, skipping the conditioner please. We recommend drying your face before entering the tank.

Have a minor cut? Apply a thin layer of petroleum to seal out the salt water.

SOAK

Enter water slowly, lie down and get acclimated in your surroundings. The float will start with starry lights and soft music which will fade away. You’ll be able to turn the lights back on if you prefer.

With first floats it can sometimes be challenging to relax and let your body melt into the salt water. Try out the supplied head pillow and play around with different arm positions. It’s common to become more aware of the thoughts in your head and the noises your body makes. All normal.

At the end of your float the lights and music will come back on gently letting you know you’ve come to the end.

COMPLETION

Stand up slowly. Before stepping out of the tank let the salt water drip off your hair and body. Step out carefully.

Shower to rinse the salt water from your hair and body using the products provided, conditioning your hair post float if you like.

We invite you to relax in the lounge area with complimentary tea or water. We suggest at least ten minutes to transition back into the outside world.

Float Tip: Salt water and eyes don’t mix. Do not rub your eyes!

Beginning to End.

Music will play the first ten minutes of the float beginning, then there is silence. You may enter and leave the float room at any time during your float. Be sure to wipe off that salt as you exit the water and shower your body if re-entering after a potty break.

(robes are provided)

When the music starts up again slowly rise, shower, dress and exit. There is a dry bar located across the hall for you to blow dry hair.

Sit for at least ten minutes in the lounge area after floating. Transition slowly back to the outside world. This step can be very important if you wish to benefit from your float. Just rushing out will could burn off the benefits before your nervous system has had a chance to soak them in — a quiet, calm exit is well worth it, particularly when you don’t feel like it.

It does take three floats to really begin to get the most out of floating. You will probably find your second and third floats quite different from the first. Some reasons for this are:

  • Relaxation is much deeper and more immediate.

  • You become more familiar with us and how we operate at the Box.

  • There is an accumulative effect of past floats.

The first float is normally very good – subsequent ones are generally much better.

Please rest as long as you wish in the float lounge – there is a hairdryer available to use and fruit tea is available

We encourage questions about the floating experiences that you may have as understanding the experience can be as important as the experience itself.

There is always an experienced member of staff available to answer any questions.

How often should I float?

Research has proven that 3 floats done within a 7 to 14-day period will produce the best benefits.

To help you experience this, we recommend our first time floater special, Salted! This package offers 3 floats to fully soak it in.
