Floating Away Anxiety: The Therapeutic Power of Sensory Deprivation

Are you constantly battling the waves of anxiety? Do you feel like you're adrift in an endless sea of worry? If so, it's time to anchor yourself with a powerful tool that could help you navigate these turbulent waters: float therapy.

Are you constantly battling the waves of generalized anxiety? Do you feel like you're adrift in an endless sea of worry? If so, it's time to anchor yourself with a powerful tool that could help you navigate these turbulent waters: floating therapy.

Imagine this: You're floating effortlessly in a tranquil pool, enveloped by 800-900 lbs of Epsom salt. The world outside fades away, leaving you in a peaceful state of sensory deprivation. For a full 60 minutes, it's just you and your breath, syncing in a soothing rhythm. This is not a scene from a sci-fi movie, but a real, accessible therapy that could be your secret weapon against anxiety.

Soak Box Float Tank

A private space where you will be welcomed by starlight and soft sounds that lull you into a silent world.

Floating therapy, or sensory deprivation tank therapy, is making waves in the wellness world. By reducing sensory input, your mind gets a much-needed break from the constant bombardment of external stimuli, a common trigger for those with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

The Epsom salt, rich in calming magnesium, enhances this therapeutic experience. Some research has been done showing that magnesium can help reduce symptoms of anxiety. Soaking in a high concentration of Epsom salt could potentially amplify these effects. More studies need to be conducted to verify if in fact magnesium levels will increase specifically based on soaking it in through the skin.

If you've never tried floating therapy, or if it's been a while since your last float, consider this your invitation to dive back in. It's time to stop merely staying afloat in the sea of anxiety and start floating towards serenity.

Remember, while floating therapy could be a beneficial tool in managing anxiety, it should not replace traditional treatments but rather serve as a complementary approach. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment for anxiety. Book A Float.

It's the perfect time to prioritize self-care, establish healthy routines, and discover new ways to be your best self. And what better way to do that than with an invigorating Fire and Ice spa treatment?

At Soak Box a Fire and Ice treatment is a 60-minute session that combines the heat of an infrared sauna with the refreshing chill of a cold plunge. This contrast therapy is not just a spa treatment, it's a life-changing health routine that many of our members swear by.

Why should you try Fire and Ice? Here are just a few of the top benefits:

1. Boosted Immunity:

The heat from the infrared sauna stimulates your body's production of white blood cells, strengthening your immune system. The cold plunge then shocks the body, further boosting your immune response.

2. Improved Circulation:

The heat expands your blood vessels, improving circulation. The cold then constricts them, pushing the blood back to your heart. This cycle can help improve cardiovascular health.

3. Detoxification:

Sweating in the sauna helps your body get rid of toxins. The cold plunge then closes your pores, keeping your skin clean and clear.

4. Mental Clarity:

The contrast of hot and cold can help clear your mind, reduce stress, and improve your mood.

Embrace the power of Fire and Ice. Feel the burn, embrace the chill, and ignite your wellness journey!

The Power of Social Wellness: Nurturing Relationships through Shared Experiences

Social wellness is about more than just being surrounded by people. It's about connecting with others on a deeper level, sharing experiences, and creating bonds that enrich our lives.

In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we often forget the importance of social wellness. July is Social Wellness Month, serving as a gentle reminder of the significance of nurturing our relationships and the profound impact they have on our overall well-being.

Social wellness is about more than just being surrounded by people. It's about connecting with others on a deeper level, sharing experiences, and creating bonds that enrich our lives. It's about experiencing something at the same time, creating shared memories, and building a sense of community.

The Social Relationship Connection to Physical Health

Research has shown that strong social relationships can have a significant impact on our physical health. A study published in the journal "PLOS Medicine" found that social connections can lead to a 50% increased chance of longevity. Socially active individuals tend to have stronger immune systems and are less likely to suffer from common ailments like colds and flu.

Moreover, social bonding can help reduce stress levels. When we share experiences with others, our bodies release oxytocin, a hormone that promotes feelings of love, bonding, and well-being. This hormone not only helps us feel good but also lowers cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for stress. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable.

Nurturing Relationships: An Essential Aspect of Social Wellness

Nurturing relationships is an essential aspect of social wellness. It involves investing time and energy into building and maintaining meaningful connections. Here are a few ways you can celebrate Social Wellness Month and nurture your relationships:

Meet a Friend at the Spa

Plan a day at Soak Box. Book float rooms, sweat together in our two-person sauna or take the plunge. These shared experiences can provide a unique bonding opportunity, allowing you to connect on a deeper level.

Neighborhood Wellness Activities

Organize wellness activities in your neighborhood. It could be a group yoga session, a wellness workshop, or a simple walk in the park.

Virtual Connections

In this digital age, don't forget the power of virtual connections. Schedule a video call with a friend or family member you haven't spoken to in a while.

Express Gratitude

Take a moment to express gratitude to the people in your life. A simple message of appreciation can go a long way in strengthening your relationships.

Active Listening

Practice active listening. When someone talks to you, give them your full attention. This simple act can make people feel valued and appreciated.

Remember, social wellness is not a one-time event but a lifestyle. Make time for your friends, family and neighbors, share experiences, and nurture your relationships. After all, our relationships are what truly enrich our lives.

Celebrate Social Wellness Month by making a commitment to nurture your social wellness. Start today, and see the positive impact it has on your life.

Athletic Recovery and Sensory Deprivation: How Floating Can Help You Reach Your Fitness Goals

If you're an athlete who's looking for a new way to recover and improve your performance, give float therapy a go.

As athletes, we all know the importance of recovery in achieving our fitness goals. From stretching and foam rolling to ice baths and massages, there are many ways to help our bodies recover after a tough workout. But have you ever considered floating in a sensory deprivation tank as a recovery method? At our spa in Wilsonville, Oregon, we've been introducing athletes to the benefits of floating, and we're excited to share the benefits with you.

First off, what is sensory deprivation?

Sensory deprivation, also known as floatation therapy, involves floating in a tank filled with water and Epsom salt, which creates a buoyant environment that allows you to float effortlessly. The tank is also soundproof and lightproof, which means that you're completely cut off from external stimuli. This creates a unique environment that can help you relax, reduce stress, and promote healing.

How Does Floating Help with Athletic Recovery?

Floating has been shown to have many benefits for athletes, including:

1. Reducing muscle tension and soreness: The Epsom salt in the tank can help to relax your muscles and reduce inflammation, which can help to alleviate soreness and tension.

2. Improving sleep quality: Floating can help to promote relaxation and reduce stress, which can lead to better sleep quality. This is important for athletes, as sleep is essential for recovery and performance.

3. Enhancing mental clarity and focus: The sensory deprivation environment can help to clear your mind and improve your focus, which can be beneficial for athletes who need to stay focused during training and competition.

4. Boosting immune function: Floating has been shown to boost immune function, which can help to prevent illness and promote overall health.

Conclusion:

If you're an athlete who's looking for a new way to recover and improve your performance, consider trying floating in a sensory deprivation tank. At our spa in Wilsonville, Oregon, we offer floatation therapy sessions that can help you relax, reduce stress, and promote healing. Give it a try and see how it can benefit your fitness goals!

Celebrating One Year!

It all begins with an idea.

Where do we begin? A simple, THANK YOU, only scratches the surface of how hitting this milestone feels. April 26th brings our biggest celebration yet, the one-year anniversary of soakbox!

How it started.

Soakbox, an idea that came to life after Katie's world was thrown some health challenges in 2018. Her 15 year old son would be fighting Hodgkin's Lymphoma while at the same time her mom would have a short and heartbreaking battle with ALS. This journey led her to seek out ways to relieve stress, reduce inflammation and give our systems a reboot naturally.

Sally, with her background in health and wellness, had longed to build something and in fact had plans to open a fitness studio in Wilsonville. The world made it clear it had other plans for her. When Katie presented the idea of opening a float therapy spa and invited Sally to partner alongside her, Sally responded with a quick yes. It was clearly evident this was the path she was led to.

Then two become one.

Over the years we had shared dreams and hopes for what was ahead in our lives. Life changes and a post-pandemic world seemed to perfectly align our vision. It was perfect timing for our vision to align. A vision of bringing wellness to others, together. What we were about to jump into was different. We were going to be sharing something many had never heard of. We believed wholeheartedly Wilsonville was ready for different

That is where YOU come in!

Your response to trying something new has blown us away. Not only have you started wellness journeys at soakbox, you have shared the experience with others AND you’ve come back time and time again. We are honored to hear your stories, honored to get to know you. You have become more than just people who walk through the spa doors, you are friends.

There are not enough thank you's to thank you for supporting our small business. Our hope is in the gift of being able to serve you, you not only see, but feel our appreciation.

Katie and Sally at Soak Box Spa in Wilsonville, Oregon

From our families to yours,

THANK YOU FOR JUMPING IN THE WATERS WITH US.

We Celebrate YOU!
